World of Warcraft gifts for a player

Updated on November 7, 2012

Shopping for a gift? I've got a lot of friends who play this game, and hand-picked the items below as something they'd probably like. Whoever you're shopping for might too! I also have a few suggestions not to give them, which many other pages about World of Warcraft gifts seem to recommend. :/

Let's start with the worst: Most other videogames.

People who love a game like this don't usually want to play them... especially if it's another like WoW, with subscription fees of its own... I picked out a few they'd probably love though.

Do not buy them another version of this game... they most likely already have them all.

You should also avoid Diablo - made by the same people - it's terrible.

Clothing is also a bad choice. You don't want to buy them something they won't wear, right?

A lot of people who play actually wouldn't want to advertise they play it in public.

Game time

World of Warcraft 60 Day Pre-Paid Time Card - PC/Mac
World of Warcraft 60 Day Pre-Paid Time Card - PC/Mac
This MMO is a subscription based game - people have to pay every month to play. More time is a great gift for World of Warcraft players. Some people have yearly plans though, so if you want to give them this... Ask! It won't be much of a surprise, but they'll still appreciate it.

If you want to buy them something they can use with the game, I recommend an Authenticator. This makes the player's account safer from hackers. I'm sure you've gotten plenty of junk mail / phishing spam about World of Warcraft accounts?

Hackers try to strip all the items and money from characters, then sell them on the blackmarket. Authenticators work by making another number that you put in with your password - requiring you to physically have the item to log into WoW.

Much like the game time, many players already have one. Ask before purchasing.

Art books (not novels)

While there are many novels out there, I wouldn't recommend them as a gift. Most gamers I know don't actually like to read. Or if they do... they're not really into books about the Warcraft game world. Skip those unless you know the tastes of the person you're shopping for.

World Of Warcraft: The Art Of The Trading Card Game Vol. 1
World Of Warcraft: The Art Of The Trading Card Game Vol. 1
Perfect for any fans of fantasy art and the game's style. It features works by popular artists like Todd McFarlane.

The Art of World of Warcraft
The Art of World of Warcraft
A little more expensive, but beloved by fans. Features concept art from the videogame, and a few gorgeous finished pieces as well. There's around 200 pages of stuff. I've had a chance to flip through this myself and liked what I saw, though I wouldn't personally buy it for the price.

Graphic novels (for comic book fans)

World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen
World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen
This one comes highly recommended by my friends who are both into the game and comics. The others weren't as well-reviewed. Curse of the Worgen features their werewolf race - that's a plus if you know the player is into horror things.

World of Warcraft Vol. 1 SC
World of Warcraft Vol. 1 SC
The first in a series of paperback graphic novels.

Computer gear

A small selection of world of warcraft-themed hardware. A new mousepad might be just the thing, if they're just using something shabby or the countertop. Gaming mice tend to be very expensive, but there are some out there specialized for playing MMOs like World of Warcraft. Read the reviews from other purchasers though!

This section is chosen based on Amazon's most popular items. They're not hand-picked due to the ever-changing catalog and items running out of stock. You should read the reviews and look at the other items like them that Amazon recommends on their page.

Other videogames

I've asked a few of my World of Warcraft friends what else they enjoy, these were on top of the list. However, they're just as download codes... so they're not really something fun to give someone. *BUT* they are fun to stick in a box, inside another box, inside another box, ... and wrap them all up. On the other hand, if someone isn't local...

Download codes are only available to americans, but everything underneath them isn't.

Borderlands 2 [Download]
Borderlands 2 [Download]
Recommended if they also enjoyed other games like Blizzard's Diablo series. It's a better experience with friends they can play with. Borderlands is a single to 4 player co-op game.

The Walking Dead [Online Game Code]
The Walking Dead [Online Game Code]
A series of games about zombie attacks. World of Warcraft players tend to really like zombies. My friends do, at least. You ought to know whether or not your person will enjoy it.

Guild Wars 2 [Download]
Guild Wars 2 [Download]
Another massively multiplayer game. Very similar to World of Warcraft. HOWEVER! Guild Wars 2 does not require a monthly fee to play. Many WOW players I know really enjoy this one.

Real-life games

Fantasy Flight Games World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game
Fantasy Flight Games World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game
This is a tabletop board game, inspired by WoW. It's actually quite different. The adventure requires friends to play... but since it's a board game, they don't actually need to own their own copy. Might be good if they live with a roomate who is also into the popular MMO.

Monopoly?

Monopoly: World of Warcraft Collector's Edition
Monopoly: World of Warcraft Collector's Edition
While I personally don't like monopoly (it's too long without house rules), many people do. I've never played this version, but it's World of Warcraft themed. It also comes in other versions like Pirates of the Carribean, Star Trek, Futurama and The Nightmare Before Christmas (wonderful movie!).

Drink mugs

For the older gentleman, or gentlewoman.

And for the less-serious crowd...

The soundtrack CDs

Arranged albums featuring the music of the game.

Murloc stuff (game mascot)

These cute little things are adorable monsters you encounter in the videogame and are a favorite among World of Warcraft fans. I have no experience with the following products, so read reviews if they seem like something your someone would be interested in.
